Another thesis painting finished. This was my second idea for the bakeneko/nekomata as my initial one had to be scrapped. It wasn’t coming along as planned, but maybe I’ll redo it someday.

This cool accessory is called an “inroo” and it’s a small box for holding small things. Any small thing is acceptable. Back in the day, it would be medicine, coins, your hanko, etc.
Because pockets don’t really exist in kimono (you could put a few things in your sleeve if you REALLY want to), small items go in the inro.
This one has a skull on it and it’s cool. Period. I’m sure it’s also expensive…
Normally inro are not worn with girls’ kimono (but who’s gonna stop you?). They are well associated with the samurai ‘look’. People on the street tend to think they’re cool but it’s uncommon, like a beret.
miserably, this perfect kimono set is only a rental.
Design by u-suke, one of the few designers who *DARE* to use color in men’s kimono and do it really really well. By pairing stark black and white with subtle violet, turquoise and red, the colors look brighter. I think the secret is because they are touching BOTH black and white. With just one, the colors might look duller as we mentally ‘adjust’ the color to be seen against the pure black or white background. But vibrating against both like this, the whole set seems to glow.
rental: 98,000 yen (4 days?) from Pure Santa.
